Mitsui gets contract from PLN<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Japan's Mitsui & Co. Ltd and Mitsui Engineering
\n& Shipbuilding have secured a contract worth US$70.48 million
\nfrom the state electricity firm PLN to build steam generators and
\nauxiliaries for two power units in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.<\/p>\n
"We put the power project under a multipackage contract.
\nTonight we signed the package agreement for building the steam
\ngenerators and auxiliaries," PLN's president, Djiteng Marsudi,
\nsaid after the signing ceremony on Monday evening.<\/p>\n
He said that the other packages include plant design,
\ninsurance, equipment and machinery shipping, plant testing and
\nsite development. Site development is now being conducted by PT
\nTriperkasa Amin Indah.<\/p>\n
According to Djiteng, the two coal-fired steam power units
\nwill be designed with a generation capacity of 65 megawatts of
\nelectricity each. They will be operational by 1999.<\/p>\n
He said that the development of the power plant is the first
\nstage of the Banjarmasin power project which will have a total
\ngeneration capacity of about 660 megawatts.<\/p>\n
Hisayoshi Toda, director of Mitsui Co. Ltd, said that
\nthe coal-fired units will be environmentally friendly. Their
\nsulfur dioxide emission will be quite low, he told The Jakarta
\nPost.<\/p>\n
"I think with our clean-coal technology, we can reduce the
\npollutive emissions from the plant's coal firing," he said. (13)<\/p>",
