Mitsubishi halts oil exports<\/p>\n
TOKYO (Nikkei) : Concerned over a possible oil shortage in
\nJapan, Nippon Mitsubishi Oil Corp. recently halted exports to
\nother Asian countries and the U.S., company sources said Friday,
\nthe Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported.<\/p>\n
The company sees stable domestic oil supply as paramount at a
\ntime when the U.S. is likely to take retaliatory measures in
\nresponse to Tuesday's terrorist attacks on New York and
\nWashington, the sources said.<\/p>\n
Last month, Nippon Mitsubishi Oil exported 130,000 kiloliter
\nof oil, including kerosene, jet fuel and gasoline, or 2-3 percent
\nof its monthly domestic production.<\/p>\n
A U.S. attack is likely to be launched against countries in
\nand around the Middle East, a major source of crude oil to Japan.
\nA Nippon Mitsubishi source said the company will monitor the
\nsituation to decide when to lift the suspension.<\/p>\n
Idemitsu Kosan Co., another oil wholesaler, is considering
\ntaking similar actions.<\/p>\n
The company exports between 50,000 and 60,000 kiloliter of oil
\neach month to other Asian countries and Australia.<\/p>",
