        "content": "<p>Misunderstanding caused train collision: PT KAI<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): An official from the state railway company PT<br>\nKereta Api Indonesia (KAI) rejected speculations on Sunday that<br>\nthe train collision in the Pinangsia-Ancol area on Saturday was<br>\ncaused by human error, preferring to call it a<br>\n&quot;misunderstanding&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>KAI spokesman Zainal Abidin said the electric passenger train,<br>\nwhich left Kampung Bandan railway station at around 12:57 p.m. on<br>\nFriday, suddenly lost its power and stopped at an area between<br>\nKampung Bandan and Angke railway station.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Officials in Kampung Bandan telephoned the Angke station<br>\nasking whether the electric passenger train from Tangerang had<br>\narrived,&quot; Zainal told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>He said the officials at Angke station responded that the<br>\nelectric train must have been in a secure position and that the<br>\nnext train, which was the diesel freight train, could leave the<br>\nKampung Bandan station.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;So the Kampung Bandan station released the diesel train,<br>\nwhich eventually rear-ended the electric train at 40 kilometers<br>\nper hour,&quot; said Zainal.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the track between the Angke and the Kampung<br>\nBanda stations was curvilinear, making it difficult for the<br>\ndriver of the diesel train to see ahead clearly.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We&apos;re still investigating the panel monitor of the train<br>\nsignals between the two stations, which was supposed to help the<br>\nofficials in locating the electric train,&quot; said Zainal, adding<br>\nthat there was no radio communication on the track.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Pademangan and North Jakarta police officers were<br>\ninvestigating the cause of the electricity failure on the<br>\npassenger train.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We&apos;re also going to ask Sumarno, driver of the passenger<br>\ntrain, about the case,&quot; said Zainal, adding that the driver of<br>\ndiesel train, Jumiran, was still hospitalized at Atmajaya<br>\nHospital in Pluit, North Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The train collision, which occurred at 1:10 p.m., killed three<br>\npeople, all identified as staffers at PT KAI, and injured at<br>\nleast 12 others, mostly passengers of the electric train.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;All of the victims&apos; medical expenditures, both the passengers<br>\nand our employees, will be covered by medical insurance provided<br>\nby PT KAI,&quot; said Zainal.<\/p>\n<p>The collision on Friday was the fifth incident in the greater<br>\nJakarta area in the past seven months.<\/p>\n<p>In January, two people died and 10 others were injured when a<br>\ngroup of teenagers, who were sitting on the roof of the train,<br>\nwere hit by an approaching bridge in Paledang subdistrict of<br>\nCentral Bogor.<\/p>\n<p>In April, a Jabotabek commuter train heading for Bogor<br>\ncareered into a Pakuan Express train, also Bogor-bound, between<br>\nManggarai and Tebet stations in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Another train collision happened at the capital&apos;s outskirts in<br>\nKarawang in mid April, when two freight trains collided with an<br>\nArgo Bromo express train from Surabaya, and killed four men and<br>\ninjured eight people.<\/p>\n<p>In May, a Jakarta-Merak diesel train collided head-on with<br>\nanother train at Bumi Serpong Damai housing complex of Serpong,<br>\nwest of Jakarta, killing four passengers and injuring 37 others.<br>\n(07)<\/p>",
