Mistakes in Crossword<\/p>\n
1. I started subscribing to The Jakarta Post last week. Now,
\namong the first things I do every morning is read Your Letters
\nand try to fill in the Crossword Puzzler or match answers to the
\nprevious puzzle. Yesterday, I found Your answer to previous
\npuzzle (of Aug. 1, for puzzle dated July 31) ridiculous. How
\ncould \"Michael Jackson's album (1 down)\" be \"BBC\" and yearly,
\nabbr. (12 across) be \"BIN\", while genetic material (15 across)\"
\nwas listed as \"CIA\"? I think the answers should be \"BAD\", \"ANN\",
\nand \"DNA\", respectively. And how could the answer to \"Gold, in
\nTijuana (14 across) be \"BEL\" yesterday, while the answer to the
\nsame question today (yesterday puzzle, 12 across) is \"ORO\"? And
\nhow could \"Orient, 45 down\" became \"EASE\" instead of \"EAST\"? I
\nwas hoping you would realize your mistakes yesterday and correct
\nthem today, but you didn't. By the way, what do \"ID\" in Letterman
\nID (41 down) and \"St.\" in Hawkeye St. (24 down)\" stand for? And
\ncould you please retype the questions taken by the fax machine,
\nso that \"i\" would not appear as \"I\"?<\/p>\n
2. To the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport management:<\/p>\n
I recently saw a friend off at the Soekarno-Hatta
\nInternational Airport. While standing in front of the entrance I
\nnoticed the schedule board changing from \"boarding\" to
\n\"terminated\". I'm not an expert in English, but the last word
\ngave me an uneasy feeling, as if my friend's plane was
\n\"terminated\" as in the movie Terminators. Why don't they use
\nwords like departed or took off?<\/p>\n
3. To the owner of Sarinah Department Store:<\/p>\n
Again, recently I visited the Sarinah Department Store in Jl.
\nJuanda for a walk after having a meal at Soto Surabaya. What I
\nsaw was a pitiful condition. The store looked old and not
\nmaintained, no prospective buyers were walking in, and the sales
\nladies were unenthusiastic. How could they survive? To think that
\nthe store is just across from the State Palace! What a pity! If
\nI'm not mistaken, the Sarinah in Jl. Braga, Bandung is also in a
\npitiful condition. If only they put as much energy into these
\nSarinahs as they do into the Sarinah on Jl. Thamrin.<\/p>\n
