        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Coordinating Minister (Menko) for\nInfrastructure and Regional Development (IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono\n(AHY) has spotlighted the condition of the banks of the Ciliwung River,\nwhich remain littered with rubbish.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the rubbish issue is one of the causes of\nsuboptimal water flow and worsens flooding in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>AHY stated that addressing Jakarta\u2019s flooding cannot be done\npartially but must be from upstream to downstream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf earlier we saw just the left and right in 5 kilometres, it\u2019s\nclear that there is rubbish on both sides. If rubbish is disposed of\ncarelessly, blockages will certainly occur. No matter how many diversion\nchannels we build, Madam Deputy Minister, it will be difficult to\nchannel fast-flowing water. Especially if the discharge is also high,\u201d\nsaid AHY during an inspection of the Ciliwung River with Deputy Minister\n(Wamen) of Public Works (PU) Diana Kusumastuti on Thursday\n(07\/05\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>AHY said that the normalisation of the 33-kilometre river has\ncurrently reached 52 percent, or 17 kilometres have been completed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe remaining 16 kilometres, I hope can be carried out\nprogressively, hopefully without any widening obstacles,\u201d said AHY.<\/p>\n<p>AHY stated that based on data from the Ciliwung-Cisadane River Basin\nOrganisation (BBWS), the Ciliwung River normalisation was initially\ntargeted for completion in 2027. However, due to various obstacles, the\ncompletion has been postponed until 2029.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, due to silting, dredging of river sedimentation by 20 to\n50 centimetres is required. Then, the release of riverbank land from\nillegal structures is needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier, the width was approximately 15-25 metres, whereas it only\nholds about 200 cubic metres per second. This is 35-50 metres wide so it\ncan hold 470 cubic metres per second, we widen it, how can we then work\ntogether with everyone, including monitoring heavy equipment that can\nhelp speed up the normalisation efforts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Diana Kusumastuti said that one of the obstacles causing the delay in\nthe Ciliwung River normalisation target is land acquisition by the\nJakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov).<\/p>\n<p>However, the Ministry of PU and Pemprov Jakarta have set a new target\nfor the land acquisition of the riverbanks along 16 kilometres to be\ncompleted in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that Pemprov\nJakarta has prepared a budget of Rp 232 billion for land acquisition for\nthe Ciliwung River normalisation in two sub-districts.<\/p>",
