Mint employees demand pay rise<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Some 100 employees of the state-owned mint, Perum
\nPeruri, staged a demonstration on Monday at its office on Jl.
\nFaletehan, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, demanding a salary hike
\nof 100 percent.<\/p>\n
The workers, grouped in the company's labor union, also urged
\nthe company to be transparent with its financial reports as they
\nalleged there had been some manipulation conducted by the
\naccounting department. They also demanded loans for housing as
\nwell as water and electricity allowances.<\/p>\n
The coordinator of the rally, Imam, told detik.com that their
\nsalary was far below the budget allocated by Bank Indonesia.<\/p>\n
For instance, he said, the basic salary of a new employee who
\ngraduated from high school was Rp 800,000.<\/p>\n
The company's management, however, said the demand to double
\nthe salary was unreasonable. Its spokesman, Zachrudin, said that
\nthe take-home pay of a new employee was Rp 1.4 million, not
\nincluding overtime or other benefits.<\/p>\n
One of the directors, TM Karnadi, said that the company would
\nsuffer if their demands were met because the pension fund and
\ncash flow would be severely affected. --JP<\/p>",
