Ministry's aid for flood victims has yet to arrive<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Deputy Governor for Social Welfare, R. Museno,
\nyesterday urged the Ministry of Social Services to provide the
\npromised aid for flood victims to the city administration as soon
\nas possible.<\/p>\n
Museno said that the city administration has not yet received
\nanything from the Ministry of Social Services since the biggest
\nfloods hit many parts of the city on Saturday night.<\/p>\n
The deputy governor's statements contradicted the Minister of
\nSocial Services Inten Soeweno who said that his office had
\ndistributed 13 tons of rice to the flood victims. Inten said this
\nwhen visiting the flood-hit areas on Monday.<\/p>\n
Inten had also called on the public to give clothes to the
\nflood victims.<\/p>\n
Minister of Health Sujudi said earlier that he had asked his
\nsubordinates to distribute medicine to the flood victims.<\/p>\n
Any official aid should go to the City Hall first, and the
\nCity Hall will distribute it to the needy families, the deputy
\ngovernor said.<\/p>\n
Some families in Bidara Cina, one of the most devastated areas
\nin East Jakarta, told The Jakarta Post yesterday that they had
\nreceived no food stuffs or medicine from the government.<\/p>\n
Sori Siregar, the families' spokesman, said that the
\nresidents, led by their own neighborhood chiefs, have been asking
\nfor food from families in neighboring areas.<\/p>\n
Kebon Baru, another flood-hit area in South Jakarta, was not
\nmuch better than Bidara Cina.<\/p>\n
\"The residents have not yet received food or medicine from the
\ngovernment. The electricity has been disrupted since Sunday, and
\nthe residents' activities have not returned to normal,\" Asep, a
