        "content": "<p>Ministry's aid for flood victims has yet to arrive<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Deputy Governor for Social Welfare, R. Museno,<br>\nyesterday urged the Ministry of Social Services to provide the<br>\npromised aid for flood victims to the city administration as soon<br>\nas possible.<\/p>\n<p>Museno said that the city administration has not yet received<br>\nanything from the Ministry of Social Services since the biggest<br>\nfloods hit many parts of the city on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>The deputy governor's statements contradicted the Minister of<br>\nSocial Services Inten Soeweno who said that his office had<br>\ndistributed 13 tons of rice to the flood victims. Inten said this<br>\nwhen visiting the flood-hit areas on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Inten had also called on the public to give clothes to the<br>\nflood victims.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Health Sujudi said earlier that he had asked his<br>\nsubordinates to distribute medicine to the flood victims.<\/p>\n<p>Any official aid should go to the City Hall first, and the<br>\nCity Hall will distribute it to the needy families, the deputy<br>\ngovernor said.<\/p>\n<p>Some families in Bidara Cina, one of the most devastated areas<br>\nin East Jakarta, told The Jakarta Post yesterday that they had<br>\nreceived no food stuffs or medicine from the government.<\/p>\n<p>Sori Siregar, the families' spokesman, said that the<br>\nresidents, led by their own neighborhood chiefs, have been asking<br>\nfor food from families in neighboring areas.<\/p>\n<p>Kebon Baru, another flood-hit area in South Jakarta, was not<br>\nmuch better than Bidara Cina.<\/p>\n<p>\"The residents have not yet received food or medicine from the<br>\ngovernment. The electricity has been disrupted since Sunday, and<br>\nthe residents' activities have not returned to normal,\" Asep, a<br>\nresident, said. (yns\/29)<\/p>",
