Ministry, WHO to hold workshop<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Officials and policy-makers from the Ministry of
\nHealth and the World Health Organization (WHO) are to begin on
\nWednesday a workshop on disaster management for the health sector
\nin Denpasar, just a few kilometers from the site of the bomb
\nattacks that killed 202 people in October last year.<\/p>\n
Titled \"Lessons Learned from the Bali Bomb,\" the three-day
\nworkshop is designed to assess how hospitals can improve their
\nmanagement of and response to such calamities. The workshop will
\nalso highlight the need for the involvement and coordination of
\nother sectors such as the police, the Armed Forces, the Red
\nCross, NGOs and the community itself, the World Health
\nOrganization announced.<\/p>\n
Dr. Uton Muchtar Rafei, Regional Director of WHO for the
\nSoutheast Asia Region, will present the inaugural speech in the
\nevent organized by the Ministry of Health with support from the
\nOffice of the WHO Representative to Indonesia, Dr. Georg
\nPetersen.<\/p>\n
Bali Governor Dewa Bratha will deliver an address at the
\nwelcoming ceremony while Minister of Health Achmad Sujudi is
\nscheduled to open the discussions. Also attending the workshop
\nwill be 59 participants from Jakarta, Bali, Makassar and Aceh, as
\nwell as representatives from international agencies and donor
\ncountries.<\/p>\n
The workshop will endeavor to create better coordination among
\nthe medical community for natural and man-made disasters, because
\nthe health sector is seen as the most important link in the
\nemergency and disaster response chain and must respond
