        "content": "<p>The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Technology has\nreduced the new undergraduate (S1) student quota at Universitas\nPendidikan Indonesia (UPI) for 2026. UPI initially proposed a quota of\n12,714 new students for 2026, but the Ministry of Higher Education only\naccommodated 12,415 new S1 students this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reduction is 2.35 per cent,\u201d said UPI\u2019s Director of Education,\nAsep Supriatna, to Tempo on Monday, 30 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the capacity for new students at state universities\nis determined by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and\nTechnology, based on proposals from the campuses. According to him, the\nreason for reducing the 2026 new student quota is to make teaching\nservices more optimal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe capacity is adjusted to the student-to-lecturer ratio and\nexisting facilities. So, this can be understood and is more in line with\nour ratio,\u201d Asep stated.<\/p>\n<p>According to Asep, UPI\u2019s proposal to increase capacity was also based\non considerations of the student-to-lecturer ratio. \u201cAnd to anticipate\nnew students who pass the selection but do not re-register,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>This year, UPI did not add any new programmes for S1 students. \u201cStill\nnumbering 106 programmes,\u201d said Vidi Sukmayadi, Head of the UPI Office\nof Communication, Information, and Public Services.<\/p>\n<p>For public universities with legal entity status (PTNBH) such as UPI,\nthe 2026 new student admission regulations refer to national selection\nbased on achievement (SNBP) of at least 20 per cent. Then, new students\nfrom national selection based on tests (SNBT) minimum 30 per cent, and\nthe independent selection pathway is set at a maximum of up to 50 per\ncent.<\/p>\n<p>The committee plans to announce SNBP results on 31 March 2026.\nMeanwhile, SNBT registration is open from 25 March to 7 April 2026.<\/p>\n<p>From the official website of the national new student admission\nselection committee, UPI\u2019s capacity for 2026 has changed compared to\n2025. Quotas for programmes increased in the SNBP pathway include\nphysics education to 45 seats, architectural engineering education 17\nseats, building engineering education 31 seats, civil engineering 46\nseats.<\/p>\n<p>Next, nutrition education 46 seats, guidance and counselling 54\nseats, tourism industry at UPI Sumedang campus 72 seats, and educational\ntechnology 32 seats.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, UPI\u2019s SNBP pathway capacity for 2026 that has been reduced\nincludes computer science education from 40 to 30 seats, sports science\neducation 67 seats, electrical engineering 17 seats, and psychology\neducation 48 seats. Besides Bandung, UPI campuses are also located in\nCibiru, Sumedang, Purwakarta, Serang, and Tasikmalaya.<\/p>",
