The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology\n(Kemdiktisaintek) has prepared the Student Impact Programme titled\nStudent Action for Learning and Community Empowerment (Aksara Mahasiswa)\nto support the handling and recovery of disaster-affected areas in East\nNusa Tenggara (NTT).<\/p>\n
In a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, Minister of Higher Education,\nScience, and Technology Brian Yuliarto expressed appreciation for the\nconcern and swift action of students, student executive bodies, and the\nentire academic community, particularly from Nusa Cendana University\n(Undana) and Mataram University (Unram), who have moved directly to\naffected locations to assist the community.<\/p>\n
He said the involvement shows that students do not only learn in\nclassrooms but are also able to bring knowledge, solidarity, and\nsolutions when the community needs them.<\/p>\n
\u201cUndana and Unram students have gone directly to help communities in\naffected locations. This is a real manifestation of the spirit of mutual\ncooperation as well as genuine learning. Campuses must be present, move,\nand provide direct benefits to the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Minister Brian explained that his ministry will strengthen and\ncoordinate the involvement of higher education institutions and students\nin handling and post-disaster recovery through the Aksara Mahasiswa\nprogramme.<\/p>\n
He said all campuses and students can take roles according to their\nexpertise, capacity, and needs on the ground.<\/p>\n
These contributions include meeting the basic needs of the community,\nhealth services, psychosocial support and trauma recovery, disaster\nimpact data collection, disaster education, and assistance for social\nand economic recovery of the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery higher education institution has expertise and resources that\ncan be mobilised. Some are strong in health, psychology, engineering,\neducation, disaster management, and community empowerment. Through\nAksara Mahasiswa, all these strengths will be synergised so that the\nassistance provided is well-targeted, coordinated, and sustainable,\u201d\nsaid the minister.<\/p>\n
Brian said the programme also serves as a contextual learning space\nfor students to apply knowledge in addressing real problems.<\/p>\n
Its implementation will be coordinated with higher education\ninstitutions, local governments, and relevant stakeholders while\nprioritising the safety of student volunteers.<\/p>\n
Separately, the Indonesian government affirmed its commitment to\naccelerating emergency handling and recovery following the magnitude 7.7\nearthquake that shook the Flores region.<\/p>\n
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno\nstated that the presence of ministers and agency heads in NTT since the\nfirst day of the incident is a form of government concern and commitment\nto assist affected communities.<\/p>\n
