Jakarta - The Ministry of Transport\n(Kemenhub) is strengthening the modernisation of the national aviation\nnavigation system to improve safety, capacity, efficiency, and\nreliability of air traffic services.<\/p>\n
\u201cModernisation of the national aviation navigation system is a\nstrategic step to enhance capacity, safety, efficiency, and resilience\nof Indonesia\u2019s air traffic services,\u201d said Director General of Civil\nAviation Lukman F. Laisa in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
The commitment was reaffirmed during a special working visit by the\nHouse of Representatives\u2019 Commission V to AirNav Indonesia\u2019s\nheadquarters in Tangerang, Banten, where the Directorate General of\nCivil Aviation (Ditjen Hubud) and AirNav Indonesia hosted the\ndelegation.<\/p>\n
The visit aimed to assess the operational readiness of the national\naviation navigation system and the implementation of the Air Traffic\nManagement Automation System (ATMAS) at the New Jakarta Air Traffic\nServices Centre (JATSC).<\/p>\n
Led by Commission V Deputy Chair Ridwan Bae, the visit included\ncoordination meetings and on-site inspections of the Indonesia Network\nManagement Centre (INMC) and New JATSC to review technological\nadvancements and readiness of national aviation navigation services.<\/p>\n
Lukman stated that the full implementation of ATMAS modernisation in\nJakarta is targeted for June 2026, following earlier deployments in\nMedan, Pontianak, and Balikpapan.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll implementation steps are carried out carefully with\ncomprehensive risk mitigation and contingency plans to ensure aviation\nnavigation services remain safe and reliable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also confirmed preparedness for mitigating Global Navigation\nSatellite System Radio Frequency Interference (GNSS RFI) around\nSoekarno-Hatta International Airport.<\/p>\n
This follows navigation disruptions in April 2026 that caused over a\ndozen flights to be diverted, initially triggered by severe weather\naffecting flight operations.<\/p>\n
Flight operations continued safely through the optimisation of\nterrestrial-based backup systems such as Instrument Landing System\n(ILS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), and VHF Omnidirectional Range\n(VOR), along with air traffic control (ATC) radar vectoring.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Ditjen Hubud and AirNav Indonesia have enhanced\ninter-agency coordination, issued Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), reported\nincidents to the ICAO Asia Pacific Regional Office, and issued Director\nGeneral of Civil Aviation Circular No.\u00a0SE-DJPU 11\/2026 on Reporting and\nHandling of GNSS RFI.<\/p>\n
Lukman assured that aviation navigation services would continue to\noperate optimally.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe continuously strengthen monitoring, control, and collaboration\nwith all stakeholders to ensure national aviation navigation services\nrun safely, smoothly, orderly, efficiently, and sustainably,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
