Jakarta \u2013 Indonesia\u2019s Ministry of Transport has begun transporting\nmotorcycles for homebound travellers through the Mudik Gratis (Motis)\nprogramme using railway services to reduce traffic congestion and\nenhance journey safety during the Eid 1447 Hijriah transport period.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe transported 254 motorcycles on the Central Route departure\ntoday,\u201d said Arif Anwar, Director of Railway Traffic and Transport at\nthe Ministry of Transport\u2019s Directorate General of Railways, during the\nfirst Motis programme dispatch at Pasar Senen Station in Jakarta on\nFriday.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that the programme represents one of the government\u2019s\nstrategies to discourage long-distance motorcycle travel during mudik,\nwhich historically carries high accident risks on public roads.<\/p>\n
Arif explained that this year\u2019s Motis programme offers transport\ncapacity for 11,900 motorcycles, expected to reduce the number of\ntwo-wheelers undertaking long-distance journeys during the Eid period.\nThe government hopes this reduction will significantly lower traffic\naccident rates during the mudik holiday period compared to previous\nyears.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, 12,941 motorcycles have registered, representing 108.75\nper cent of the quota. Registration has exceeded our capacity,\u201d he\nnoted.<\/p>\n
He attributed the high demand to the programme\u2019s growing popularity\namongst travellers wishing to transport motorcycles to their home towns\nwithout undertaking arduous overland journeys.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough registrations have exceeded the quota, we will conduct\nverification. If cancellations occur, those on the waiting list can\nimmediately register again. If anyone still wishes to register, standby\nplaces remain available on our website at nusantara.kemenhub.go.id,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
The government has implemented a verification process to ensure\nparticipant data validity whilst providing opportunities for others to\nparticipate if quota spaces become available.<\/p>\n
Programme requirements include motorcycles with engine capacity below\n200 cubic centimetres, plus valid original documents comprising Family\nCard, Vehicle Registration Certificate, and Driving Licence.<\/p>\n
The government operates four daily Motis train journeys comprising\nthree main routes: the North, Central, and South routes to serve\nmotorcycle transport for homebound travellers.<\/p>\n
