        "content": "<p>The Ministry of Transmigration (Kementrans) continues to strengthen\nthe development of the Batam Rempang Galang (Barelang) Transmigration\nZone, with an emphasis on job creation and improving community welfare\nin an inclusive and sustainable manner. These efforts are aimed at\nensuring the area\u2019s reorganisation proceeds in alignment with residents\u2019\ninterests.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Transmigration M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara affirmed\nthat the government is working to ensure Rempang residents do not merely\nrelocate to new sites but also have access to sustainable livelihoods.\n\u201cThe principle is that people should not simply move to a new place \u2014\nthey must also have employment that continues to generate income for\ntheir welfare,\u201d Minister Iftitah said after attending the Chinese New\nYear 2577 celebrations in Batam on Monday, 16 February 2026.<\/p>\n<p>In supporting the development of the Rempang area, the Ministry of\nTransmigration is collaborating with BP Batam and the Batam City\nGovernment. Programme progress is also reported periodically to the\nCoordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus\nHarimurti Yudhoyono.<\/p>\n<p>According to Minister Iftitah, conditions in Rempang over the past\nyear have become increasingly conducive. The more peaceful situation is\nregarded as vital capital for driving the zone\u2019s development whilst\nfostering a healthy investment climate. \u201cPraise be to God, over the past\nyear the situation has become increasingly peaceful and conducive. This\nis important for creating a comfortable investment climate for all\nparties. This is what we will continue to build,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>As a concrete form of support, the Ministry of Transmigration has\nhanded over 16 fishing vessels of 5 Gross Tonnage (GT) each to\ntransmigrant fishermen in the Tanjung Banon Transmigration Zone,\nBarelang, Batam City, Riau Islands. Each group of fishermen received one\nvessel complete with fishing support equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi stated that the\nassistance is expected to boost the income of coastal communities. \u201cThe\nfishermen are very pleased with this aid. We hope that with these\nvessels, their income will increase because, God willing, their catch\nwill grow significantly, enabling them to support their families,\u201d he\nsaid during the handover ceremony in December 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the vessel assistance, the Ministry of Transmigration,\ntogether with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) and BP\nBatam, has also conducted capacity-building training for fishermen in\nthe Tanjung Banon transmigration zone. The training covers techniques\nfor maximising catch yields as well as fish processing to achieve higher\nmarket value.<\/p>\n<p>The development of the Barelang Transmigration Zone is expected not\nonly to drive regional economic growth but also to serve as a model for\ntransmigration zone management that prioritises dialogue,\nsustainability, and the improvement of local community welfare.<\/p>",
