        "content": "<p>The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) will select members of\nthe Majelis Masyayikh for the 2026-2031 term to bolster the quality\nassurance system for pesantren education in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The selection will commence through a process conducted by Ahlul\nHalli Wal Aqdi (AHWA), established via Ministerial Decree (KMA) Number\n609 of 2026. AHWA is the team tasked with choosing Majelis Masyayikh\nmembers.<\/p>\n<p>The Director General of Islamic Education at Kemenag, Suyitno, stated\nthat forming AHWA ensures the Majelis Masyayikh is filled with figures\npossessing capacity, integrity, and a strong understanding of the\npesantren world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe role of AHWA is akin to a selection commission for rectors at\nPTKIN. In this context, AHWA serves as the selection committee for\nMajelis Masyayikh,\u201d said Suyitno in Jakarta on Thursday (7\/5), quoted\nfrom the Kemenag website.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, strengthening pesantren quality requires an\nassessment and quality assurance system capable of addressing\ncontemporary challenges without abandoning the distinctive character of\npesantren as educational institutions rooted in scholarly traditions and\nmorals.<\/p>\n<p>On that occasion, Suyitno also mentioned plans to strengthen the\ninstitutional framework of the Directorate of Pesantren by elevating it\nto an Echelon I unit.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, in this context, the Majelis Masyayikh is expected to\nhold an increasingly strategic position in carrying out assessment and\nquality assurance functions for pesantren education in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Majelis Masyayikh must be capable of conducting quality\nassessments and achieving quality assurance in its assessment\nprocesses,\u201d said Suyitno.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Directorate General of Islamic\nEducation at Kemenag, Arskal Salim, assessed that the selection process\nfor Majelis Masyayikh members needs to be conducted openly, accountably,\nand measurably through public scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is best if this selection process includes public testing. The\ntimeline also needs to be carefully agreed upon to find the ideal\ntiming,\u201d said Arskal.<\/p>\n<p>The Director of Pesantren at Kemenag, Basnang Said, who is also part\nof AHWA, explained that they have an important mandate in all stages of\npreparing candidate members for the Majelis Masyayikh.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, AHWA\u2019s duties include determining prospective\ncandidate members for the Majelis Masyayikh, issuing letters of\nwillingness requests, determining candidates based on willingness\nletters, and submitting candidate names to the Minister of Religious\nAffairs.<\/p>\n<p>The Majelis Masyayikh is an independent and autonomous body that\nformulates and establishes the pesantren education quality assurance\nsystem.
