The Ministry of Religious Affairs is preparing religious education\nmaterials to serve as guidelines for religious counselors in conveying\nunderstanding related to LGBTQ issues. The content will be aligned with\nIslamic teachings and the provisions in force in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Director General of Islamic Community Guidance Abu Rokhmad stated in\nJakarta on Tuesday that the preparation of these materials aims to\nstrengthen the role of religious counselors in providing religious\neducation to the public on various developing social issues.<\/p>\n
Abu explained that religious counselors have five main roles:\nproviding religious education, conducting religious guidance,\nstrengthening public religious literacy, assisting families and\ncommunities, and conveying Islamic perspectives on various social issues\nin a polite, persuasive, and easily understandable manner.<\/p>\n
He noted that counselors deliver religious understanding based on\nIslamic teachings regarding issues developing in society. Guidance is\nprovided through religious study sessions, family mentoring, and various\nother religious forums.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur religious counselors and preachers have a close relationship\nwith the community. Through religious counseling and guidance\nactivities, they can be at the forefront of delivering education in a\npolite, persuasive, and easily understandable way,\u201d Abu said.<\/p>\n
According to Abu, religious counselors are also obliged to explain\nIslamic views on various social issues, including LGBTQ matters, in an\nargumentative manner while still prioritising polite and persuasive\nmethods.<\/p>\n
The preparation of these educational materials is part of the\nimplementation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs\u2019 duties as mandated\nin Presidential Regulation No.\u00a0153 of 2024 concerning the Ministry of\nReligious Affairs, which affirms the function of fostering religious\nlife through guidance and counseling services to the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are preparing this material so that religious counselors have a\nunified guideline in providing education to the public. The delivery\nmust prioritise a wise, argumentative, and easily understandable\napproach so that the religious message can be well received,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The materials currently being prepared are expected to become a\nreference for religious counselors in explaining Islamic perspectives on\nLGBTQ issues using a wise, argumentative approach based on religious\nvalues and national legal provisions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe combination of the prepared materials and field counseling\nactivities is expected to strengthen the public\u2019s religious literacy in\naddressing various social issues,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
