The Ministry of Religious Affairs, alongside several philanthropic
institutions and strategic partners, has distributed aid worth Rp23.55
billion to more than 52,000 recipients in commemoration of the ‘Lebaran
Yatim’ (Orphans’ Eid) and for people with disabilities for the 1448 H
period. The programme reaches 50,113 orphans and 2,488 individuals with
disabilities spread across 34 provinces.

Symbolically, aid was presented to 395 orphans and 55 people with
disabilities. The assistance is the result of a collaboration between
the Ministry of Religious Affairs and various partners, including
BAZNAS, the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI), Islamic banks, and several
National Zakat Institutions (LAZNAS).

The Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, stated that the
commemoration of 10 Muharram should serve as a momentum to strengthen
care for children in need, rather than being merely an annual ceremony.
“Let us make this 10 Muharram a day of liberation for orphans and groups
requiring attention. Let us free them from the various life
difficulties, anxieties, and sufferings they endure,” said the
Minister.

According to Nasaruddin, attention towards orphans and people with
disabilities must be realised through sustainable steps, such as
expanding access to education, developing self-capacity, and creating
greater opportunities for them to participate in society. He also
invited the public to make ‘Lebaran Yatim’ a developing social tradition
that strengthens solidarity and brings benefits to vulnerable
groups.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance, Abu
Rokhmad, explained that this year’s programme adopts a broader concept
than just the distribution of donations. The activities are designed as
an empowerment space so that children can demonstrate their potential
and creativity.

“We want to provide a wider space for orphans and people with
disabilities to express their best potential. They are not merely
beneficiaries, but an important part of social and religious
development,” said Abu.

This concept is realised through five activity zones: the Growth Zone
for education, the Empowered Zone for capacity and skill development,
the Barokah Market showcasing empowerment products, the Expression Zone
as a platform for art and creativity, and the Light Zone, which serves
as a venue for the auction of works created by sponsored children.

Abu noted that the programme involves 14 institutions at the central
level and is taking place simultaneously across Indonesia through 34
Regional Offices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and hundreds of
regencies and cities.

Based on committee data, the total aid collected and distributed
reached Rp23,554,782,009. West Kalimantan was the province with the
largest distribution value, amounting to Rp7,575,980,800, while Rumah
Zakat was recorded as the institution with the largest contribution to
the collaborative programme.

Abu emphasised that the success of the programme is inseparable from
the synergy of various parties, including the government, zakat
institutions, waqf institutions, the business world, and the community.
“The main strength of this programme is collaboration. When the
government, zakress institutions, waqf institutions, the business world,
and the community move together, the benefits felt by the children
become much greater,” he said.
",
