The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) of the Republic of\nIndonesia, in collaboration with the West Sumatra Provincial Government\nand the Padang City Government, has distributed aid and conducted the\nrestocking of catfish seeds for communities affected by\nhydrometeorological disasters in Koto Panjang Ikur Koto, Koto Tangah\nDistrict, Padang City, on Saturday (1\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
This strategic move is part of an effort to accelerate the\nrehabilitation and reconstruction of the fisheries sector following\ndisasters that hit several areas in West Sumatra. In addition to the\ndistribution of 101,000 catfish seeds, the KKP also provided aid in the\nform of cool boxes for processing and marketing, fish feed, and fishing\ngear such as nets for local fishermen.<\/p>\n
The Director of Infrastructure at the Directorate General of\nAquaculture, KKP, Enggar Saptopo, stated that the recovery of the\nfreshwater aquaculture sector in Padang City has now reached 100%. This\nsuccess was achieved through solid collaboration and synergy between the\ncentral, provincial, and local governments.<\/p>\n
\u201cKKP, together with the West Sumatra Provincial Government and Padang\nCity Government, acted swiftly to conduct post-disaster rehabilitation.\nFor Padang City, the recovery of freshwater aquaculture has reached 100\nper cent through interventions such as the provision of seeds, feed,\ncool boxes, and fishing nets. Most importantly, the community remains\nmotivated to immediately resume their economic activities,\u201d said Enggar\nSaptopo.<\/p>\n
Enggar added that the KKP has also deployed fisheries extension\nofficers to provide continuous technical assistance to ensure that\ncommunity aquaculture businesses can flourish again. He expressed hope\nthat this synergy would continue to be strengthened through to the\nfuture development stages of the fisheries sector.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Head of the Padang City Fisheries and Food Service,\nAlfiadi, expressed deep appreciation for the sustained attention from\nthe KKP from the emergency response phase through to the recovery\nphase.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe KKP\u2019s attention is a great blessing for Padang City. The\nfisheries sector is one of the main pillars of our community\u2019s economy.\nThe recovery of fisheries land in Padang has covered an area of 7,930\nsquare metres. This gradual assistance serves as an extraordinary boost\nfor the community to rise again,\u201d said Alfiadi.<\/p>\n
Alfiadi explained that the KKP\u2019s intervention focuses not only on\nphysical aid and infrastructure but also on increasing Human Resource\n(HR) capacity. The KKP has assigned specialised technical assistants for\none month in Padang City to oversee economic recovery and support the\ndevelopment of the \u2018Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih\u2019 (Red and White Fishing\nVillage) in Padang Sarai Village.<\/p>\n
