The Ministry of Industry, through the Large Center for\nStandardization and Industrial Services for Plantation, Mineral, Metal,\nand Maritime Products (BBSPJIHPMM), is strengthening the development of\nlocal coffee management technology through a partnership with the\nSidenreng Rappang (Sidrap) Regency Government, South Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis strengthening of cooperation is aimed at developing industries\nbased on regional flagship commodities, specifically increasing the\nquality and competitiveness of Sidrap coffee products,\u201d said Asma Assa,\nHead of the Technology Utilisation, Consultancy, and Technical\nAssistance Optimisation Team at BBSPJIHPMM, in Sidrap on Friday.<\/p>\n
Following a meeting with the Regent of Sidrap, BBSPJIHPMM, alongside\nthe local Trade and Industry Office, will immediately implement\nprogrammes for coaching, competency enhancement, and the application of\nindustrial technology for local business actors.<\/p>\n
One of the planned programmes, she noted, involves increasing the\ncompetence of coffee processors through the application of post-harvest\ntechnology, involving local coffee producers in Leppangeng Village, Pitu\nRiace District, Sidrap.<\/p>\n
The Regent of Sidrap, Syaharuddin Alrif, responded positively to this\nsynergy. He assessed that improving processing quality is key to\nensuring that regional flagship commodities can provide greater added\nvalue for the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cCoffee is one of our region\u2019s mainstay commodities alongside rice.\nTherefore, its quality must be continuously improved, from the\npost-harvest process to becoming a product with higher selling value,\u201d\nhe added.<\/p>\n
Through this technological assistance from the Ministry of Industry,\nthe Regent stated that there is an opportunity for coffee entrepreneurs\nin Sidrap to improve product quality and expand their marketing\nreach.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur potential exists. It is now a matter of how we improve quality,\npackaging, and marketing. The local government continues to support\nSidrap\u2019s flagship products so they are not only known regionally but are\nalso able to compete in wider markets,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He expressed hope that the collaboration for coffee processing\nindustry development would grow stronger, simultaneously increasing the\ncapacity of business actors and providing a positive impact on the\nincome of farmers and coffee producers.<\/p>\n
In addition to Leppangeng Village, coffee plantations are spread\nacross other villages in the Pitu Riase District. In Dusun III Matajeng,\nTana Toro Village, the Sipammasemase Farmers Group manages two hectares\nof land planted with 4,000 robusta coffee trees, which have been in\nproduction since 2024.<\/p>\n
This area possesses geographical conditions that support the\nexpansion of coffee plantations on a larger scale and has already\nproduced tens of tonnes of high-quality coffee beans.<\/p>\n
According to the Regent, several locations in the Pitu Riase District\nstill have vast areas of vacant land available for coffee cultivation.\nThere are plans to transform this district into a coffee production\ncentre, which requires government intervention and support.<\/p>\n
This opportunity must be realised to increase income and stimulate\nthe village economy.
