        "content": "<p>This is a form of national recognition for inmates and detainees who\nhave shown positive behavioural changes and actively participated in\nrehabilitation programmes while serving their sentences in prisons,\ndetention centres, and juvenile facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2013 The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections\n(Kemenimipas) has granted special remission and sentence reduction (PMP)\nfor Waisak 2570 BE 2026 to 1,052 Buddhist inmates and detainees\nnationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto stated in\nJakarta on Sunday that the special remission and PMP is a fulfillment of\nrights for inmates and detainees who meet administrative and substantive\nrequirements as per regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a form of national recognition for inmates and detainees who\nhave shown positive behavioural changes and actively participated in\nrehabilitation programmes while serving their sentences in prisons,\ndetention centres, and juvenile facilities,\u201d Agus said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, five juvenile detainees received Special PMP I, which\ninvolves sentence reduction.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kemenimipas data, there are 1,944 Buddhist inmates and\ndetainees nationwide. Of these, 1,047 qualify for Waisak special\nremission.<\/p>\n<p>The highest number of recipients for the 2026 Waisak special\nremission and PMP is from North Sumatra with 186 people, followed by\nWest Kalimantan with 163, and Jakarta with 140.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Waisak occasion should serve as a time for self-reflection to\ncontinue improving behaviour, strengthening self-control, and enhancing\nspiritual and moral quality in life,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the Correctional Database System as of 21 May 2026, the\ntotal number of detainees and inmates nationwide is 270,779, comprising\n55,457 detainees and 215,322 inmates.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the number of children and juvenile detainees nationwide\nas of 22 May 2026 stands at 1,663, including 323 children and 1,340\njuvenile detainees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe granting of special Waisak remission and PMP in 2026 saved\nRp840,525,000 in inmate meal budgets and Rp2,145,000 for juvenile\ndetainees,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mashudi expressed hope that the remission and PMP would encourage\ninmates and juvenile detainees to continue improving themselves, comply\nwith regulations, and prepare to reintegrate healthily and productively\ninto society as a sign of the correctional system\u2019s success.<\/p>",
