        "content": "<p>Badung (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and\nTechnology (Kemendiktisaintek) is inviting higher education institutions\nto sort and even close degree programmes (prodi) that are less relevant\nto future workforce needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo all the rectors present here, there is willingness; soon there\nmay be some that we must execute in a not too long time regarding the\nprogrammes; we need to select, sort, and if necessary close them to\nincrease relevance,\u201d said Secretary General of Kemendiktisaintek, Badri\nMunir Sukoco.<\/p>\n<p>Badri, at the National Population Symposium for 2026 in Badung\nRegency, Bali, on Thursday, explained that this step is being taken by\nthe government to curb the mismatch between university graduates and\nindustry.<\/p>\n<p>Kemendiktisaintek records that every year campuses graduate 1.9\nmillion young people, consisting of 1.7 million bachelor\u2019s degrees and\nthe rest diplomas.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, he said, when early deindustrialisation occurs,\nthese graduates will have difficulty entering the job market, so the\ngovernment is issuing initiatives to boost industrialisation,\nparticularly specific industries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is actually needed for programmes in the future, that is what\nwe will try to compile together later, and of course, studies from the\nmanagement of the PKPT Consortium (Higher Education Caring for\nPopulation) are needed,\u201d Badri stated.<\/p>\n<p>He assessed that in welcoming the demographic bonus, higher education\nshould lead Indonesia forward through graduates who can meet future\nneeds.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, many campuses are employing a market-driven strategy or\nopening programmes according to majors that are popular among\nprospective students.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Kemendiktisaintek has found that every year education or\nteaching majors graduate 490,000 alumni, while the market for\nprospective teachers is 20,000 people, so the rest become educated\nunemployed.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, he invited higher education institutions, especially\nmembers of the PTKP Consortium, which was formed together with the\nMinistry of Population and Family Development Planning\n(Kemendukbangga)\/BKKBN, to help in compiling studies on relevant\nprogrammes.<\/p>\n<p>The government is also inviting campuses to use a market-driving\nstrategy by mobilising the market, particularly the eight strategic\nindustries that have been outlined by the government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way is to adjust the programmes; new programmes need to be\ndeveloped that match the eight strategic industries; of course, there\nneeds to be willingness from each rector to conduct those studies,\nadjusted so that the programmes are indeed relevant,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
