        "content": "<p>JAKARTA \u2013 Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah\nof the Republic of Indonesia, has welcomed the fatwa issued by\nMuhammadiyah regarding the permissibility of performing dam (ritual\nsacrifice) for hajj pilgrims within Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dahnil, this position aligns with policies also approved\nby the government and Islamic scholars in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome the Muhammadiyah fatwa. The Saudi Arabian government and\nscholars there also permit the slaughter of dam animals within their\nrespective countries,\u201d Dahnil stated when contacted by Republika.co.id\non Tuesday, 17 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised that the government grants Indonesian hajj pilgrims the\nfreedom to follow their own Islamic jurisprudential beliefs regarding\nthe location of dam sacrifice.<\/p>\n<p>For pilgrims who accept the Muhammadiyah fatwa, Dahnil said they are\npermitted to slaughter dam animals in their home regions in\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe permit hajj pilgrims who are convinced by and trust the\nMuhammadiyah fatwa to slaughter dam animals in their respective\nlocations,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>However, for pilgrims who believe that dam sacrifice must be\nperformed in the Holy Land, the government will continue to facilitate\nthis through official mechanisms approved by the Saudi Arabian\ngovernment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor hajj pilgrims who believe dam sacrifice must be in the Holy\nLand, we permit this through official channels approved by the Kingdom\nof Saudi Arabia,\u201d said Dahnil.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the Tarjih and Tajdid Assembly of Muhammadiyah\u2019s Central\nLeadership issued a fatwa permitting the slaughter of dam animals for\nhajj pilgrims to be relocated from the Holy Land to Indonesia in order\nto realise broader community welfare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tarjih and Tajdid Assembly permits this, subject to certain\nconditions, to prevent wastage and ensure benefits are widely felt by\ncommunities in need,\u201d stated the fatwa signed by Assembly Chair Hamim\nIlyas and Secretary Rofiq Muzakkir.<\/p>",
