After nearly two weeks of operations, personnel from Manggala Agni of\nthe Forest Fire Control Centre for the Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara\nRegion, together with the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Centre, the\nIndonesian National Armed Forces, the National Police, the Regional\nDisaster Management Agency, volunteers, and the community are still\nmonitoring and wetting the burnt area.<\/p>\n
Dwi said vigilance remains necessary because the previous fire\naffected several types of vegetation, ranging from savanna, mountain\npine, ferns, shrubs, to a fairly thick layer of leaf litter. These\nconditions allow embers to survive within the burnt material even though\nthe flames are no longer visible.<\/p>\n
The team is also wary of the phenomenon of local wind vortices or\ndust devils that can lift light material and potentially carry embers to\nother areas. According to Dwi, the handling of forest and land fires at\nBromo is an important lesson for strengthening fire prevention efforts,\nespecially in facing the dry season.<\/p>\n
\u201cBromo provides an important lesson: the fire may be under control,\nbut the threat of forest and land fires is not over. Prevention must be\nstrengthened from the site level,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said area managers also need to strengthen community involvement,\nnot only in fire prevention but also in the management of the national\npark area. According to him, the community is the party closest to the\nforest area and is often the first to know about disturbances. On the\nother hand, the community is also the most affected party when fires\noccur.<\/p>\n
\u201cProtecting the forest must be done together with the community,\u201d Dwi\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Forestry, he continued, is strengthening forest and\nland fire control in facing the 2026 dry season. This strengthening\nincludes the readiness of Manggala Agni, early detection, patrols, and\ncross-sector coordination.<\/p>\n
