The Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi) has announced comprehensive measures to maintain seamless telecommunications and internet services during the 2026 Ramadan and Eid holiday period, anticipating a 30-40 percent surge in network traffic during the mass exodus and return journeys. The government has coordinated intensively with major mobile operators—Telkom, Telkomsel, XLSmart, and Indosat—to implement mitigation strategies, deploying 35 monitoring units and establishing joint command posts at nine strategic locations including major airports, train stations, and ports to oversee service quality and radio frequency spectrum security throughout the period.

Jakarta - The Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi) has
ensured that internet and telecommunications network services remain
uninterrupted during the Ramadan and Eid 2026 period. The government,
working with mobile operators, has prepared various measures to
anticipate the surge in communication traffic during the mudik (mass
exodus) and return journey periods.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Communications and Digital,
Ismail, stated that telecommunications traffic is expected to increase
significantly during this year’s mudik season.

“The implication will naturally have a significant impact with a
surge in telecommunications traffic that we estimate to be around 30-40
percent,” said Ismail during a joint flag ceremony at Komdigi offices on
Friday (13 March 2026).

He explained that this surge is higher compared to previous years,
driven by a longer Eid holiday period compared to last year.

For this reason, Komdigi has requested that mobile operators
implement mitigation measures to maintain service quality during this
period.

“Therefore, this is a challenge for all of us, especially our
operator colleagues, on how we can mitigate against this predicted
surge,” said Ismail.

He also hopes there will be no significant disruptions during the
mudik period so that telecommunications networks can serve the public
with the best quality.

Additionally, Komdigi has requested that operators prioritise network
readiness in strategic areas heavily traversed by holiday travellers.
Ismail also requested that monitoring centres remain on alert throughout
the holiday period.

He emphasised that radio frequency spectrum is a vital element for
telecommunications services. For this reason, oversight must be
conducted strictly to prevent service disruptions.

“Radio frequency spectrum is the fuel or the most important substance
for our mobile operator friends,” he said.

The government has also requested that all operators such as Telkom,
Telkomsel, XLSmart, and Indosat work extra hard during the Eid
period.

“We must not allow unnecessary disruptions to occur in the field
during this major national celebration for Eid al-Fitr,” he
stressed.

Komdigi ensures that monitoring of telecommunications services will
be conducted periodically throughout Ramadan until Eid 2026.

Meanwhile, Director General of Digital Infrastructure at Komdigi,
Wayan Toni Supriyanto, stated that the government has conducted
intensive coordination with mobile operators to prepare various
anticipatory measures.

“Komdigi has held several meetings with operator colleagues and
coordinated intensively to prepare various mitigation efforts to address
the increase in communication network traffic during the Eid mudik
period,” said Wayan on the same occasion.

As part of oversight, Komdigi and operators have also established a
joint command post to monitor communication service quality and radio
frequency spectrum.

Monitoring is conducted through 35 Units of Technical Implementation
(UPT) of Radio Frequency Spectrum Monitoring Centres, which will operate
from 13 March to 29 March 2026.

“This is to ensure that communication service quality remains optimal
and radio frequency spectrum remains secure from disruptions during
Ramadan mudik and Eid 2026,” he said.

Monitoring command posts have also been placed at nine strategic
locations that serve as the main movement points for holiday travellers,
including Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Gambir Station, Semarang Tawang
Station, KCIC Halim Station, and several rest areas and ports.

Other locations include Merak Port, Bakauheni Port, Tanjung Perak
Port Surabaya, Gilimanuk Port, Ketapang Port Banyuwangi, and Sekupang
Port Batam.

Additionally, Komdigi has prepared a main control centre at the
central communications monitoring office, which serves as the
coordination hub for all command posts.

According to Wayan, the establishment of this joint command post is
not only aimed at maintaining communication service quality, but also at
ensuring public safety during mudik.

“The implementation of this joint command post also has the main
objective of protecting public safety by ensuring that communications
using telecommunications radio are not disrupted,” he said.

Komdigi has also prepared support for an early warning system (EWS)
through SMS broadcasts and digital television broadcasts. Additionally,
the public can contact the emergency service 112, which is already
available in DKI Jakarta and 192 cities across Indonesia.

On the other hand, the government has also reminded the public to
remain vigilant against potential digital fraud, including fake BTS
(base transceiver station) schemes that could target mobile users during
the mudik period.
",
