Indonesia's Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is revising the proposal scheme for the Indonesia Pintar Programme (PIP) funds to ensure optimal absorption, following the return of over Rp600 billion to the state treasury due to technical, geographical, and bureaucratic hurdles rather than violations. The changes will allow schools to submit proposals directly, bypassing local education offices for more accurate data. In collaboration with the Attorney General's Office, the Jaga Indonesia Pintar platform enables direct reporting of fund misuse by recipients, with swift legal action promised for criminal findings.

BANDUNG – Indonesia’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education
(Kemendikdasmen) is changing the proposal scheme for the Indonesia
Pintar Programme (PIP) funds to ensure they can be absorbed optimally.
This was stated by Deputy Minister of Basic and Secondary Education
(Wamendikdasmen) Atip Latipulhayat.

According to him, based on data collected by Kemendikdasmen, there
are PIP funds worth more than Rp600 billion that have been returned to
the state treasury. This is due to various technical and geographical
obstacles in the field, preventing the funds from being disbursed.

Atip emphasised that the return of funds due to these technical
reasons is mostly not caused by violations, but by recipients’ lack of
knowledge. Additionally, there are factors of inefficient bureaucratic
processes.

“So, around Rp600 billion has been returned. This return is mainly
due to reasons that are actually not violations, but due to lack of
knowledge, lack of clarity, and geographical reasons. We will fix that,”
said Wamendikdasmen Atip at the launch of Jaga Indonesia Pintar together
with the Attorney General’s Office in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday
(6/5/2026).

To minimise idle funds, he continued, Kemendikdasmen is now reviewing
changes to the PIP recipient proposal policy. Atip proposed that
submissions can be made directly by schools, no longer through local
government education offices (disdik). This way, the incoming data will
be more factual and in line with students’ conditions.

The prosecutor’s office stated that the Jaga Indonesia Pintar
platform serves as a direct monitoring system for PIP recipients to
report any form of fund deductions or abuse of authority.

According to Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence (Jamintel) Reda
Manthovani, this system provides direct access for students and parents
to report if the received PIP funds are not intact. He emphasised that
the Attorney General’s Office will follow up if findings relate to
criminal matters.
",
