The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) is strengthening the\nmanagement of production and supply of national broiler chickens as part\nof efforts to maintain price stability and the sustainability of the\nlivestock farming business.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis step is carried out through the arrangement of measured and\nadaptive seed imports to align with market needs,\u201d said the Director of\nLivestock Breeding and Production at the Directorate General of\nLivestock and Animal Health of Kementan, Hary Suhada, in Jakarta on\nThursday.<\/p>\n
He stated that this policy is important because it directly affects\nthe stability of the poultry sector. Controlled production is expected\nto maintain supply and price stability, thereby providing income\ncertainty for farmers.<\/p>\n
These efforts were discussed in the Quarterly Evaluation Meeting on\nthe Importation of Grand Parent Stock (GPS) broiler chickens, held\nvirtually. The evaluation focused on optimising the first-quarter\nrealisation and strengthening future production regulation\nstrategies.<\/p>\n
Based on reporting data, Hary continued, in the first quarter, the\ncumulative GPS broiler importation realisation was 87,150 Day Old Chicks\n(DOC), and for GPS layer, it was 2,995 chicks. These seed imports serve\nas a reference for the government to improve the accuracy of sustainable\nproduction regulation.<\/p>\n
Hary said the government continues to refine the governance of seed\nimports to make it more precise and in line with national needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlanning and realisation of GPS imports continue to be synchronised\nwith national needs, so that production regulation can run more\noptimally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that the implementation of the National Stock\nReplacement (NSR), which will begin in early 2026, serves as the main\ninstrument in maintaining production balance. The timing of imports and\ndistribution is carried out more measured to keep supplies stable in\nevery period.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor farmers, the implementation of NSR provides production stability\ncertainty, so that farm-level prices can be maintained and businesses\nremain sustainable,\u201d said Hary.<\/p>\n
In addition, the government is also encouraging improvements in seed\nquality through strengthening genetic quality and production\nperformance. This step is expected to increase farmer productivity as\nwell as the competitiveness of the national poultry subsector.<\/p>\n
On the supply side, Hary added, opportunities for GPS sources are\nincreasingly open, including from Australia and the United Kingdom,\nwhich have harmonisation agreements with Indonesia. This policy\nstrengthens the availability of GPS as the main source of national\nbroiler chicken seeds.<\/p>\n
Expert from the Analysis Team on the Supply and Demand of Broiler\nChickens and Consumption Eggs at the Directorate General of Livestock\nand Animal Health of Kementan, Trioso Purnawarman, emphasised the\nimportance of maintaining production balance to keep the market\nstable.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe distribution of NSR needs to be maintained proportionally, so\nthat supply continuity and market stability can be preserved,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Agriculture emphasised that strengthening the\ngovernance of broiler chicken production is part of the state\u2019s\nresponsibility in protecting farmers while ensuring price affordability\nfor the public.<\/p>\n
With increasingly precise production regulation, the government is\noptimistic that the national poultry sector will become more stable,\nfarmers will be protected, and the public\u2019s need for animal protein will\ncontinue to be met.<\/p>\n
Chairman of the Poultry Breeding Companies Association (GPPU),\nDawami, assessed that price stability greatly depends on proper\nproduction management.<\/p>\n
