        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), together\nwith the West Java Provincial Government, is ensuring that rice\nproduction remains optimal through anticipatory measures to address the\npotential dry season expected to last from April to October 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis effort is focused on strengthening water availability and seed\nsupport to keep rice production optimal and ensure food supplies remain\nsecure,\u201d said Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman in his\nstatement in Jakarta on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>It was noted that West Java Province, as one of the national rice\ngranaries with an irrigated paddy field area of around 900,772 hectares,\nplays a strategic role in maintaining national rice production\nstability.<\/p>\n<p>It is known that the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)\npredicts that this year\u2019s dry season could be longer and drier,\nparticularly in the western and southern regions of Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>To address this situation, the Ministry of Agriculture, along with\nlocal governments and relevant stakeholders, has prepared various\nstrategic measures, including strengthening agricultural irrigation\nnetworks, optimising pump irrigation, providing water pump assistance,\nand maximising non-swamp land.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the government is distributing rice seed assistance as\npart of efforts to maintain productivity amid climate pressures.<\/p>\n<p>Amran emphasised that the government has prepared comprehensive\nanticipatory steps to face the dry season, particularly through\nstrengthening irrigation and pump irrigation to maintain water\navailability for agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWater is the key factor. Therefore, strengthening irrigation, pump\nirrigation, and seed support must proceed together so that farmers can\ncontinue to produce optimally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Through coordinated measures, he hopes that water availability for\nagriculture will be maintained, so that rice production and productivity\nin West Java Province can be sustained or even increased, despite facing\nclimate change challenges.<\/p>",
