        "content": "<p>\u201cThe most pressing issue we are handling today is related to training\nand capacity-building programs for persons with disabilities, aiming to\nhelp them build competencies that match job market demands,\u201d Manpower\nMinister Yassierli said.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement cited here Thursday, he highlighted ongoing efforts to\nmobilize all empowerment facilities under the ministry, including\nvocational training centers and job opportunity expansion centers, to\nwork \u201cmore proactively\u201d in accommodating residents requiring special\nintervention and support.<\/p>\n<p>Yassierli drew attention to an empowerment initiative rolled out by a\njob opportunity expansion center in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, aimed\nat preparing persons with disabilities to enter the job market.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 40 participants are currently undergoing orientation and\ntraining at the center before being placed in the light industry sector,\nhe added.<\/p>\n<p>He further noted that the facility is also set to organize an event\nin Makassar, South Sulawesi, bringing together around 50 companies\ncommitted to employing workers with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, he continued, is expected to provide a strategic\nvenue for the government and business players to foster stronger\ncollaboration in creating a more enabling employment system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hope is that this center does not serve only as a training hub\nbut also helps stimulate collaboration for the benefit of local\ncommunities by maximizing its duties and functions,\u201d Yassierli\nremarked.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, he emphasized the government\u2019s responsibility to promote the\ninclusion of persons with disabilities in the workforce, backed by legal\nprovisions.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted that Law No.\u00a08 of 2016 requires state- and\nregion-owned enterprises to allocate at least two percent of jobs to\npersons with disabilities, while private companies must allocate at\nleast one percent.<\/p>\n<p>Yassierli also issued a regulation earlier this year governing the\nconferment of appreciations to companies for appropriate attitudes\ntoward workers with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Minister champions equal access to jobs for people with\ndisabilities<\/p>\n<p>Related news: MPR urges stronger commitment to disability rights<\/p>\n<p>Translator: A.N.
