        "content": "<p>The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology\n(Kemdiktisaintek) has instructed all universities to immediately\nmobilise their experts to help handle the impact of the Anak Krakatau\neruption on the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge university leaders to mobilise experts, including those in\nhealth, engineering, environment, disaster management, psychology and\nother fields, to remain involved and monitor the development of this\neruption,\u201d said Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and\nTechnology Fauzan during an online press conference on post-eruption\neducation service updates held in Jakarta on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The deputy minister stressed that scientific expertise from academics\nis crucial in monitoring and responding to the volcanic disaster in a\nmeasured manner.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to deploying expert teams, the ministry also asked\nuniversity leaders to mobilise aid urgently needed by the public and the\nacademic community.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding protection for campus communities, he confirmed that so far\nthere have been no reports of casualties or infrastructure damage at\nuniversities due to volcanic ash exposure.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, outdoor activities by the academic community must be\nminimised as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOffice services, learning processes and other academic activities\ncan be carried out online or in a hybrid format, or through other\nmethods deemed more effective in reducing illnesses caused by the\neruption dust,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Fauzan specifically reminded universities to play a role in curbing\nthe spread of hoaxes related to the disaster among the public.<\/p>\n<p>He required all members of the academic community to base their\nanalysis and actions on official government sources, through close\ncoordination with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the\nMeteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and the Centre\nfor Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG).<\/p>",
