Ministers to sign worker protection<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Five Cabinet ministers will sign a decree on the
\nestablishment of an advocacy agency to provide legal assistance
\nfor migrant workers.<\/p>\n
Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Jacob Nuwa Wea said
\nafter meeting with President Megawati Soekarnoputri on Thursday
\nthat the joint decree would be signed next Monday.<\/p>\n
"The first offices of the agency will be in Saudi Arabia and
\nKuwait," Jacob said, adding that eventually five offices would be
\nset up in Middle Eastern countries.<\/p>\n
Besides Jacob, the decree will be signed by Minister of
\nForeign Affairs Hassan Wirayuda, Minister of Justice and Human
\nRights Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Minister of Finance Boediono and
\nMinister of Religious Affairs Said Agil al-Munawar.<\/p>\n
The agency will consist of Indonesian civil servants and
\nlawyers from the host countries, the minister said.<\/p>\n
The government is establishing the agency to increase the
\nlegal protection for Indonesians working abroad.--JP<\/p>",
