        "content": "<p>Minister's remarks draw media fire<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (Reuter): Relations between Kuala Lumpur and<br>\nLondon ran into further problems yesterday with Malaysia<br>\ndemanding clarification of remarks made by visiting British Trade<br>\nMinister Richard Needham.<\/p>\n<p>Malaysia wants Britain to clarify Needham's statement earlier<br>\nthis week that Britain will be pressured to retaliate the longer<br>\nMalaysia continues with its policy of banning British companies<br>\nfrom Malaysian government contracts.<\/p>\n<p>\"Britain must clarify,\" screamed yesterday's front-page<br>\nheadline of The New Straits Times newspaper, which is generally<br>\nseen to reflect government thinking.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper quoted Malaysia's Acting Foreign Minister Abu<br>\nHassan Omar as saying the Foreign Ministry will seek<br>\nclarification as soon as possible from the British government.<\/p>\n<p>Needham's remarks were made in an interview with Reuters and<br>\nthe Financial Times.<\/p>\n<p>\"The longer they leave it ... the more likelihood there is of<br>\nretaliation by the British side,\" Needham said at the end of his<br>\nsecond visit to Malaysia in as many months. \"The longer it goes<br>\non, the more voices will be raised against it.\"<\/p>",
