        "content": "<p>Jakarta - The Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection\n(PPPA) Arifatul Choiri Fauzi has firmly stated that the practice of\nchild marriage justified by tradition or social pressure cannot be\npermitted when it disregards the best interests of the child.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe respect the cultural values that exist in society, but the\nprotection of children\u2019s rights must be the primary priority. Tradition\ncannot sacrifice the future of children,\u201d said Minister Arifatul Choiri\nFauzi in Jakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>She made this statement in response to a child marriage involving two\nchildren aged 13 and 15 years old in Pancor Hamlet, Tumpak Village,\nPujut District, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara.<\/p>\n<p>Based on information gathered, the incident began on 3 March 2026 in\nthe early morning when both children left their homes and were\nsubsequently discovered by their families. This occurrence prompted the\nfamily\u2019s decision to marry them off through family consultation and\ncustomary procedures, despite the village government having previously\nadvised against the marriage as both children were below the legal\nage.<\/p>\n<p>A joint team from the UPTD PPA of West Nusa Tenggara Province, the\nDP3A of Central Lombok Regency, the Unit PPA of Central Lombok District\nPolice, Pujut Health Centre, and the Tumpak Village Government\nsubsequently conducted outreach and provided assistance to the children\nand their families.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, UPTD PPA will continue to conduct regular monitoring\nand support to ensure the fundamental rights of the children remain\nprotected.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, a video circulated widely on social media showing the\nmarriage ceremony of two children in Central Lombok, allegedly held on\nThursday (5 March). The girl child remains a junior secondary school\nstudent, whilst the boy is reported to have dropped out of school.\nInternet users expressed regret over the child marriage that took place\nduring the month of Ramadan.<\/p>",
