Minister pledges extra funds<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of National Education Yahya A. Muhaimin
\nsaid on Tuesday that the ministry had requested the National
\nDevelopment Planning Board (Bappenas) for extra funds to support
\nthe Southeast Asian (SEA) Games training program.<\/p>\n
"The request had been forwarded to Bappenas ... so that it
\nwill not give such a small contribution," he said, as quoted by
\nAntara, after installing new officials of the Directorate General
\nof Sport at his ministry.<\/p>\n
The National Sports Council (KONI) said earlier that the
\ngovernment would only disburse Rp 5.5 billion of the Rp 48.6
\nbillion needed to finance the third phase of its centralized
\ntraining program beginning in June.<\/p>\n
Yahya said that the government's contribution was too small.
\n"Maybe the government wants to be consistent in its effort to
\ninvolve the public in sports development.<\/p>\n
"But I believe that KONI has experience in dealing with
\nfinancial shortages and some of the sports organizations, like
\nthe Badminton Association of Indonesia and the Soccer Association
\nof Indonesia, have set up their own strategies," he said.<\/p>\n
