        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant\nWorkers (P2MI) Mukhtarudin stated that the recommendations of the United\nNations Committee on Migrant Workers (CMW) represent a momentum to\nstrengthen the protection of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI). This was\nconveyed by Mukhtarudin whilst opening the Dissemination Forum on the UN\nCommittee\u2019s Concluding Observations (CO) on the Protection of Migrant\nWorkers and the Formulation of a National Action Plan (RAN) in Jakarta\non Tuesday. \u201cAs a UN member state and a state party to the convention,\nIndonesia has an international legal obligation to follow up on all\nrecommendations and report on the progress of their implementation\nperiodically,\u201d Mukhtarudin said in a press statement from the Ministry\nof P2MI. He explained that the CO document serves as an official\nreference for evaluation and recommendations for improvement, such as\nharmonising national regulations, strengthening institutional\ncoordination, and increasing access to protection and justice for PMI\nand their families. The document contains 33 substantive\nrecommendations, including strengthening human rights-based migration\ngovernance, regulatory harmonisation, protection of migrant workers,\naccess to justice, eradication of the criminal act of human trafficking,\nhandling digital exploitation, consular services, social security, and\nreintegration of migrant workers, he said. According to Mukhtarudin, a\nnumber of these recommendations are directly related to the mandate of\nthe Ministry of P2MI, particularly the formulation of a comprehensive\nnational migration strategy that is human rights-based,\ngender-sensitive, and has measurable indicators and targets. He stressed\nthat the protection of migrant workers abroad must be strengthened\nthrough improving the quality of consular services, data collection of\nboth documented and undocumented migrant workers, provision of safe\nhouses (shelters), legal aid, and support for repatriation and\nreintegration. Furthermore, he also emphasised the importance of special\nattention for women migrant workers, children of migrant workers,\npersons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups so that they are\nprotected from gender-based violence, discrimination, exploitation, and\nother human rights violations. Mukhtarudin asserted that the forum must\nbe a momentum to build commitment among ministries and agencies,\nregional governments, civil society, migrant worker organisations, and\nall stakeholders so that the National Action Plan becomes a national\nreference in improving governance and strengthening the protection of\nPMI. The Indonesian government under President Prabowo Subianto is\nobliged to submit a follow-up report to the CMW Committee no later than\n1 January 2028, and the next periodic report by 1 January 2031. The\nsuccessful formulation of the RAN will be a benchmark for Indonesia\u2019s\ncommitment to fulfilling its international obligations while\nstrengthening a migrant worker protection system that is more\nresponsive, inclusive, and oriented towards respect for human rights. He\nsaid the government is targeting that all CMW Committee recommendations\ncan be implemented in a measurable manner so that PMI protection is\nincreasingly robust from the pre-placement stage, during work abroad,\nuntil returning to the homeland.<\/p>",
