Indonesia's Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, has assessed that the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return travels have been relatively smoother than the previous year, thanks to effective government policies such as Work From Anywhere and toll discounts that dispersed travel times. Projections for returning vehicles dropped from 285,000 to 250,000, with public transport departures rising by 11.11%, indicating better traffic management and infrastructure readiness. The government continues monitoring and evaluating to ensure ongoing smoothness and plans further improvements for future periods.

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo has evaluated that the
implementation of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return flows has
generally proceeded relatively more smoothly compared to the previous
year, with ongoing monitoring and evaluation until the return flow
period ends.

“This year’s Eid, in my opinion, is better than last year, but we are
still continuing to monitor until the return flow is complete.
Hopefully, it remains smooth like the homecoming flow yesterday,” said
Dody in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He stated that the smoothness of the homecoming and return flows is
inseparable from the synergy of various parties, including
infrastructure readiness, traffic management, and government policy
support such as Work From Anywhere (WFA), which helps distribute the
public’s travel times.

“We remain on alert to monitor. Hopefully, the weather supports it,
and the public who went homecoming are willing to follow the
government’s appeals not to return to Jakarta all at once, so that
vehicles on toll roads and non-toll roads are not too crowded,” he
said.

Dody conveyed that the policy was able to reduce the projection of
the number of vehicles returning at the peak of the return flow.

“If we look at the return flow, we initially predicted 285,000
becoming 250,000, and there was also a decrease in the crossing flow, so
I see there is effectiveness,” said Dody.

The Ministry of Transportation recorded that public transport
movements during the Eid period from H-8 to H+3 increased by 4.07%, with
the number of passenger departures rising by 11.11% compared to the same
period last year.

Not only WFA, he also assessed that the toll fee discount policy
could potentially impact the distribution of vehicle flows so as not to
concentrate at certain times.

Thus, he continued, the government urges the public to take advantage
of the policy to avoid congestion at the peak return flow, estimated to
occur on 28–29 March 2026.

Dody assured that the government continues to evaluate the
organisation of Eid transportation to improve service quality in future
periods.

He emphasised that the government is not complacent even though this
year’s homecoming and return implementation has relatively gone
well.
",
