Minister launches poverty program<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: In conjunction with the commemoration of the
\nNational Social Solidarity Day for Friends, Minister of Social
\nAffairs Bachtiar Chamsyah launched a nationwide poverty
\nalleviation program in Tegal Kunir Lor village in Mauk district
\nof Tangerang regency on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The program, called the Poor Village Adoption (ADEM), was
\ninspired by the child adoption program, he said.<\/p>\n
Under the new program, any commercial institution managed
\neither by the private sector or the government is expected to
\nadopt poor villagers.<\/p>\n
It is being conducted in cooperation with the Community
\nEmpowerment Center at National University in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Tangerang regent Ismet Iskandar said that there were five
\nvillages that were chosen for the pilot project in the regency --
\nTegal Kunir Lor, Tegal Kunir Kidul, Gunung Sari, Rajeg Mulya and

BOGOR: The regency administration held a joint project with South
\nKorea government to convert around 10 hectares of dry soil in
\nTenjo area into a farming land.<\/p>\n
Bogor administration secretary, Yuyun Muslihat, explained that
\nthe South Korea government will provide equipments, vehicles, and
\ncrop seeds, as well as trainings for farmers on which crop can
\ngrow well on dry soil.<\/p>\n
\"We hope that such technology assistance from South Korea
\ngovernment can help the crops growing productively,\" he said
\nafter a plenary session at the Bogor legislative council on
\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
He added that the land in Tenjo area is originally a model for
\ndry-soil agriculture, where only particular crops which can be
\nharvested after one year or seasonal were planted.<\/p>\n
No information on details of the project was available.
\nFacilities for the project executors had been built in the area,
\nwhile the project is about to started, Yuyun said.<\/p>\n
The project is a government-to-government cooperation in which
\nBogor was chosen as the venue because the regency is the closest

BOGOR: The Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) plans to
\ndevelop 17 of its assets, mostly former campuses, in an effort to
\nfinance the education budget, which this year amounts to some Rp
\n450 billion.<\/p>\n
IPB rector Ahmad Ansori Mattjik said on Monday the institute
\nwould generate money from the development of the assets so that
\nit would not burden students too much. The cost of educating a
\nstudent was some Rp 18 million per year, he said.<\/p>\n
He added IPB had set up a team that would be tasked to take a
\nclose look at the 17 assets, located outside the main campus at
\nDarmaga, Bogor.<\/p>\n
He said that three former IPB campuses, at Baranangsiang,
\nTaman Kencana and Gunung Gede had potential to make money.<\/p>\n
According to Ahmad, the former Taman Kencana campus would be
\nused to build a luxury hospital, while Baranangsiang campus would
\nbe used for a special program for business executives, and other
\ncommercial activities like a convention center and an
\nagribusiness center.<\/p>\n
IPB also plans to build a shopping mall, guest house and other
