        "content": "<p>\u201cIndonesia, with 230 million people currently connected to the\ninternet, feels the need to take a stance that Indonesia must have its\nown regulations regarding AI,\u201d Meutya remarked at the BRAVO 500 Summit\n2026 here on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, the governance framework is necessary to ensure\nthat every AI innovation introduced in the country can be held legally\naccountable.<\/p>\n<p>She cited a 2025 incident where the government had to block an\napplication service known as World Apps for misusing public data by\ncollecting biometric information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were also surprised by the large number of people who flocked to\nprovide data to receive incentives or payments by providing retinal\ndata,\u201d she revealed, noting that such incidents highlight the\ngovernment\u2019s crucial role in providing a clear legal framework.<\/p>\n<p>Meutya revealed that the upcoming legal framework will prioritize 10\nspecific sectors designed to align with President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s\nAstacita national development vision.<\/p>\n<p>The targeted areas include food security, health, education,\neconomics and finance, bureaucratic reform, political law and security,\nenergy and the environment, housing, transportation and infrastructure,\nas well as arts and the creative economy.<\/p>\n<p>She further explained that the ministry will only provide a broad\numbrella regulation through an upcoming Presidential Regulation.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry is currently drafting two main frameworks, including one\nconcerning the ethics of AI development and another detailing the\nnational AI development roadmap.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not in a position to regulate the entire sector.
