Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, known as Gus Ipul, has\nencouraged the Indonesian Community Education Activists Union (SP2MI) to\ntake part in identifying children who are not in school, have dropped\nout, or are at risk of dropping out, to ensure they gain access to\nproper education through the Sekolah Rakyat (People\u2019s Schools)\nprogramme. Speaking as the keynote speaker at the SP2MI 2026 National\nGathering at the Sasonobudoyo Building, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, East\nJakarta, on Thursday, he invited members to assist in updating data on\nout-of-school children. \u201cOn this good occasion, I invite you all to be\ninvolved in updating data. If you find students who have not been\nrecorded, you can help update it through the channels we have\nestablished,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Gus Ipul expressed his appreciation for the dedication of community\neducators who have been actively assisting children who have not had the\nopportunity to attend school. He noted that the issue of out-of-school\nchildren remains a significant shared challenge, with government data\nindicating over four million school-age children are currently outside\nthe education system. The minister explained that President Prabowo\nSubianto has given the Ministry of Social Affairs three strategic\nmandates: updating the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN),\ndistributing targeted social assistance, and organising Sekolah Rakyat.\nHe emphasised that all these programmes must begin with accurate data to\nensure government interventions truly reach those in need.<\/p>\n
Gus Ipul clarified that Sekolah Rakyat does not use a conventional\nregistration mechanism but instead relies on outreach to children from\nextremely poor families in the first and second economic deciles. He\nassessed that SP2MI and its network of community education institutions\nhold a strategic position to help locate and support prospective\nstudents across various regions. He expressed hope for strengthened\nsynergy between the Ministry of Social Affairs and SP2MI, particularly\nthrough collaboration with the ministry\u2019s 30,000 Family Hope Programme\n(PKH) facilitators nationwide. The minister also opened the possibility\nof broader cooperation to support the implementation of Sekolah Rakyat\nand address the issue of out-of-school children through various\ncommunity education programmes.
