        "content": "<p>During a working meeting with Commission X of the Indonesian House of\nRepresentatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Tuesday, the Minister for Higher\nEducation, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, ensured that his\nministry will not close study programmes deemed irrelevant, but will\ninstead develop them to meet contemporary demands. The Minister stated\nthat the current government is prioritising the guidance and development\nof scientific substance to ensure it remains relevant to the modern\nera.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Brian noted that study programmes are being encouraged to\nupdate their learning focus to be more attractive; for instance,\nmathematics is being transformed into actuarial science to become more\napplicable and more readily absorbed by the business world. Another\nexample of this adaptation, he continued, can be seen in the adjustments\nmade to electrical engineering programmes, where the curriculum is now\nincreasingly developing specialisations in artificial intelligence,\nmachine learning, and robotics technology.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure consistent curriculum updates, the Minister requested that\nworking bodies or coordinating bodies within each study programme\nconduct routine evaluations every three to four years. These periodic\nevaluations aim to measure the proportion of fundamental scientific\nknowledge that must be maintained, as well as determining the extent to\nwhich learning materials should be directed towards more implementable\nfields.<\/p>\n<p>Brian also explained that the mechanism for closing a study programme\ncan only be executed if there is a direct proposal from the university\nconcerned or as a sanction for serious violations. \u201cI repeat, rather\nthan closing them, we are developing study programmes to match\nindustrial needs; not by closing programmes, but by developing and\nadjusting the substance being taught,\u201d said Brian Yuliarto.<\/p>",
