The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil\nLahadalia, has highlighted the phenomenon of a shift in public\nconsumption from non-subsidised fuel to subsidised fuel. According to\nhim, this situation must be treated as a serious concern to ensure that\nenergy subsidy allocations are truly enjoyed by those entitled to\nthem.<\/p>\n
Bahlil specifically urged individuals owning luxury vehicles and\nthose in comfortable economic positions not to use subsidised fuels,\nsuch as Pertalite or Biosolar. He requested that affluent groups\ndemonstrate the awareness to not encroach upon facilities intended for\nthe underprivileged.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegarding the issue of shifting, where those who previously did not\nuse subsidies are now using them, my advice as an Indonesian citizen to\nmy fellow citizens who are capable\u2014and I apologise, those whose cars are\nBMWs or high-class vehicles\u2014please, let us use our hearts,\u201d Bahlil said\non Thursday (17\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cLet us not use subsidised fuel. That is for our brothers and sisters\nwho are entitled to receive it. Another method is that subsidies must be\nprecisely targeted,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
When asked about the potential for the government to issue specific\nregulations to manage and limit this consumption shift, Bahlil stated\nthat his department would consider it first.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will consider it; we will see. But I must say this first, because\nregulation requires a process. However, this appeal is important,\u201d said\nBlamil.<\/p>\n
As an example of leadership, he cited himself, noting that he never\nuses subsidised fuel, even though the government continues to guarantee\nan even supply of fuel for the wider public.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf someone like me were to use subsidised fuel, it wouldn\u2019t be\nright. Subsidised fuel is for our brothers and sisters who are entitled\nto it. If you have a sufficient salary and a nice house, please use your\nconscience,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n
He admitted he felt compelled to voice this because of his background\nand life experiences, which are close to the reality of the common\npeople.<\/p>\n
