Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Nasaruddin Umar has called on\nthe public to make haze resulting from forest and land fires (karhutla)\na common enemy, as its impacts threaten human health and environmental\nsustainability.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet us make that haze a common enemy,\u201d said the Minister during the\nnational-level commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad\u2019s birthday in\nJakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The Minister said that smoke haze from forest burning not only\ndisrupts public activities and breathing, but can also cause serious\nhealth impacts, especially for groups with respiratory conditions such\nas asthma.<\/p>\n
According to him, the issue of forest and land fires needs to be seen\nnot only as an environmental problem, but also as a threat to human\nlife. Therefore, the public must work together to stop the habit of\ndamaging the environment in order to clear land.<\/p>\n
The Minister linked efforts to prevent forest and land fires with the\nexample set by the Prophet Muhammad in protecting nature. He reminded\nthat the Prophet Muhammad forbade acts that damage nature.<\/p>\n
He quoted a hadith of the Prophet regarding the importance of\nplanting and protecting trees as part of efforts to care for the\nearth.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven if the world were certain to end tomorrow, continue planting\ntrees,\u201d the Minister stressed.<\/p>\n
\u201cAdvise our brothers and sisters so that we do not make a habit of\nclearing or opening gardens by burning trees, because that will damage\noxygen, damage nature, damage the lungs of the earth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
At this Maulid Nabi commemoration, the Ministry of Religious Affairs\nlaunched the National Movement for the Selawat Kebangsaan and the Study\nof the Prophet\u2019s Biography (Ngaji Sirah Nabawi).<\/p>\n
Carrying the theme \u201cEmulating the Morals of the Prophet: Weaving\nBrotherhood, Glorifying Humanity\u201d, the event became an important\nmomentum not only for strengthening the spiritual life of the faithful,\nbut also for affirming the stance of environmental preservation.<\/p>\n
As the opening of the series, the Ministry also held the Maulid\nCommemoration and Ijazah Kubro Dalail Khairat. Director General of\nIslamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Abu\nRokhmad explained that the National Movement for the Selawat Kebangsaan\ninvites millions of Muslims to recite selawat simultaneously.<\/p>\n
The movement targets the participation of 1,781,945 participants from\nacross Indonesia, a figure chosen as a historical symbol of Indonesia\u2019s\nIndependence Day.<\/p>\n
