        "content": "<p>Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has denied\nthat power cuts affecting several areas on the island of Java, including\nJakarta and Bandung, were caused by coal scarcity. He said efforts are\nbeing made to prevent further blackouts. \u201cUntil today, this evening I am\nalso meeting with PLN to discuss this issue. The issue of scarce coal is\nnot true, because our mandated allocation is already 170 million\ntonnes,\u201d Bahlil said at the Presidential Palace complex on Thursday.\nAccording to him, the blackouts were purely due to problems with power\ngeneration machinery. On the occasion, Bahlil also confirmed that\noutages had indeed occurred. \u201cIt\u2019s just that there are some troubles in\nseveral engines as conveyed by PLN and they will be resolved in the near\nfuture,\u201d he said. \u201cYesterday there were indeed outages. Operations are\nnot yet optimal, we are accelerating the recovery,\u201d he replied. Bahlil\nfurther stressed that the government and PLN are striving to ensure\nthere are no more rolling blackouts. \u201cWe are making efforts so that\nthere will soon be no more outages,\u201d he stated. Earlier, Energy Ministry\nspokesperson Dwi Anggia also denied that the blackouts were caused by\ndwindling coal supplies for PLN\u2019s power plants. \u201cThere is definitively\nno thinning coal supply. There are indeed some technical disruptions. We\nhave communicated with PLN to anticipate so this incident does not\nrecur,\u201d Anggia said at the Energy Ministry on Thursday. PLN had\npreviously issued an official announcement regarding the outages through\nsocial media on Wednesday. At least 14 areas in West Java have been\naffected by rolling blackouts since yesterday.<\/p>",
