Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2014 MIND ID, together with PT Timah (Persero) Tbk, the\ngovernment and other elements of society, is improving tin mining\ngovernance on Belitung Island, Bangka Belitung, through Presidential\nRegulation (Perpres) Number 79 of 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government has issued Presidential Regulation Number 79 of 2026,\nwhich will serve as the legal basis for PT Timah to carry out\nimprovements to tin mining governance in Belitung,\u201d said MIND ID Chief\nExecutive Maroef Sjamsoeddin during a hearing with Commission XII of the\nHouse of Representatives at the parliamentary complex in Senayan,\nJakarta, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Maroef said the problem that prompted the issuance of Perpres 79 was\nthe failure to pay mining service fees in the Belitung area after the\nwork plan and budget (RKAB) quota was exhausted, which caused social\nunrest in the community.<\/p>\n
The problem culminated on 7 August 2026, when a Timah office in East\nBelitung was set on fire.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis incident was triggered in part by social unrest caused by\nmining service payments from PT Timah to the community that could not be\nmade,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
To resolve the unrest, the government, through the Coordinating\nMinister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections, asked PT\nTimah to provide compensation to the Belitung community and to draw up\nregulations to address the problems in Belitung.<\/p>\n
These events led to the issuance of Presidential Regulation 79 of\n2026 on the Acceleration of Tin Mining Governance Improvement in the\nBangka Belitung Islands Province on 31 August 2026.<\/p>\n
The provisions set out in the regulation include improvements to the\ngovernance of PT Timah\u2019s mining business permit areas (WIUP); a one-year\ntime limit for the governance improvement programme; a requirement for\nPT Timah to carry out administrative verification of the legality of tin\ncommodities purchased from outside its WIUP; and tin production above\nthe RKAB quota for one year, specifically for the Belitung area during\nthe governance improvement process.<\/p>\n
As such, the regulation allows PT Timah to purchase tin from mines\nlocated outside its WIUP, as well as to produce, process, refine and\nsell tin from PT Timah\u2019s WIUP on Belitung Island even beyond the\nproduction quota approved in the RKAB.<\/p>\n
