        "content": "<p>The Regent of Mimika, Central Papua, Johannes Rettob, has proposed to\nthe central government, through the National Development Planning Agency\n(Bappenas), that priority be given to infrastructure development to\nenhance inter-regional connectivity in Papua. Speaking in Timika on\nThursday, Johannes Rettob noted a significant disparity in\ninfrastructure development between Papua and other regions in\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInfrastructure serves as the lifeblood that drives development in\nall sectors, such as economy, health, and education,\u201d he stated. He\nadded that the processes of development and public services in\nmountainous and coastal areas cannot function optimally without adequate\ninfrastructure support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn other parts of Indonesia, development focuses on alleviating\ncongestion and increasing efficiency, such as building motorways. In\nother regions, roads are built to establish connectivity. Here in Papua,\nwe need roads and bridges, yet they remain unbuilt. I hope Bappess looks\ninto this seriously,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He further explained that Mimika Regency possesses 13 airstrips,\nresulting in extremely high transportation costs, which makes\ndevelopment in the area prohibitively expensive. \u201cOur development budget\nis exhausted merely by transportation costs, making it difficult to\nfoster economic growth or provide essential services to the community,\u201d\nhe added.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, he hopes the central government, through the Ministry\nof National Development Planning\/Bappenas, will address the\ninfrastructure issues across the entire Papua region with seriousness.\n\u201cDevelopment in Papua must focus on infrastructure first; only then can\nwe advance health and education. Without infrastructure, how can we\nrealise \u2018Healthy Papua\u2019 and \u2018Smart Papua\u2019?\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>These infrastructure concerns were shared by Regents from across\nPapua during a Strategic Dialogue with the Deputy Minister of Bappenas,\nheld in Timika, Mimika Regency. The attending Regents expressed their\nhope that the central government would prioritise infrastructure to\nunlock inter-regional connectivity, thereby accelerating equitable\ndevelopment throughout Papua.<\/p>",
