Military warns college over PKI<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: Maj. Gen. Yusuf Kartanegara, the outgoing chief of
\nthe Diponegoro Military Command, urged the Satya Wacana Christian
\nUniversity in Salatiga to stop employing three staff lecturers
\nwho turned out to have had past links with the outlawed
\nIndonesian Communist Party (PKI), Antara reported.<\/p>\n
Yusuf said there is a danger that these lecturers might try to
\nslip in communist teachings in their class.<\/p>\n
\"I think it is very dangerous to give anyone who was involved
\nwith the outlawed party strategic employment like teaching,\" he
\nsaid. \"They would not only be teaching their respective field of
\nexpertise, they might try to teach the principles of their
\nparty,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said regulation banning anyone with past PKI links taking
\nup strategic jobs such as in the military, or as civil servants,
\nteachers and lecturers still stands.<\/p>\n
The military command early this year said it learned that
\nthree Satya Wacana lecturers had been former political detainees
\nbecause of their PKI connection. The university has said that it
\nwas still considering what to do with the three lecturers. (emb)<\/p>",
