Military, students hold dialog<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A dialog between the military and students was
\nheld at City Military Chief. Maj. Gen. Sutiyoso's residence on
\nJl. Teuku Umar, Central Jakarta, Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Lt. Col. Didi Supandi, the City Military Command spokesman,
\nsaid yesterday both parties considered the dialog useful.<\/p>\n
The students, represented by student councils from most
\nprivate and state tertiary institutions, told Sutiyoso what they
\nthought Jakarta's \"irregularities\" were.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso, referring to recent university student brawls, told
\nstudents to refrain from conduct damaging their reputations as
\ncenters of excellence.<\/p>\n
\"I am very happy to have had the opportunity to talk with the
\nstudents,\" Sutiyoso said.<\/p>\n
In an effort to create a \"better climate\" in Jakarta, Sutiyoso
\nhas held informal meetings with all layers of society and
\nprofessional organizations, including ulemas, journalists and
