        "content": "<p>Military Police has yet to file abductors' dossiers<\/p>\n<p>BANDUNG (JP): Military investigators have failed to meet their<br>\npromise of submitting to the military tribunal, by the end of<br>\nlast week, the dossiers of 11 Army's Special Force (Kopassus)<br>\nsoldiers suspected of involvement in the abductions of political<br>\nactivists.<\/p>\n<p>Military police chief Maj. Gen. Djasri Marin said here on<br>\nSunday: \"We have yet to submit the suspects' dossiers because<br>\nthey still need the final touches.\"<\/p>\n<p>\"What would be the use of submitting incomplete dossiers? They<br>\nwould certainly be refused by the court. And if the incomplete<br>\ndossiers are returned the public would certainly protest and go<br>\non a frenzy,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>Djasri was here to accompany Army Chief of Staff Gen. Subagyo<br>\nHadisiswoyo at a seminar on ABRI's civic mission in agriculture<br>\nat the Center for Military Police Education.<\/p>\n<p>Asked when the dossiers would be completed and handed over to<br>\nthe tribunal, Djasri answered quickly: \"I don't know. I cannot<br>\nset a date and I won't disappoint the public over the abduction<br>\ncase.\"<\/p>\n<p>Following his swearing-in as new ABRI military police chief to<br>\nreplace Maj. Gen. Syamsu Djalaludin in Jakarta two weeks ago,<br>\nDjasri pledged to submit the dossiers by the end of last week.<\/p>\n<p>Marzuki Darusman, deputy chairman of the National Commission<br>\non Human Rights, said earlier that the dossiers were scheduled to<br>\nbe completed and submitted to the military tribunal on Oct. 20,<br>\nwhile trials were expected to commence on Nov. 3.<\/p>\n<p>Djasri declined to say whether the dossiers had been signed by<br>\nkidnapped activists who had resurfaced.<\/p>\n<p>At least 23 activists were abducted over the last two years<br>\nfor their criticism of former president Soeharto's New Order<br>\ngovernment. Nine have been released while the others' whereabouts<br>\nare unclear.<\/p>\n<p>The nine who have been reunited with their families are Pius<br>\nLustrilanang, Desmon J. Mahesa, Rahardjo Waluyo Djati, Faisol<br>\nRiza, Nezar Patria, Mugianto, Aan Rusdianto, Andi Arief and<br>\nHaryanto Taslam.<\/p>\n<p>Other missing persons being sought by the independent<br>\nCommission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras)<br>\ninclude Deddy Hamdun, Noval Alkatiri, Ismail, Suyat, Petrus Bima<br>\nAnugrah, Yani Afri, Sonny, Ucok Munandar Siahaan, Hendra Hambali,<br>\nM. Yusuf, Y. Muhidin, Triyono and Wiji Thukul.<\/p>\n<p>Another activist, Leonardus Gilang Nugroho Iskandar, was found<br>\ndead in Magetan, East Java. (rms)<\/p>",
