Military emergency in Aceh<\/p>\n

The security situation in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province is
\nnow relatively under control thanks to the hard work of the
\nsecurity agencies in eradicating the armed separatist Free Aceh
\nMovement (GAM) since the start of martial law there.<\/p>\n
However, it is not time yet to revoke martial law as members
\nof GAM are still hiding in the jungles.<\/p>\n
Aceh province needs specially treatment, and until GAM is
\ncompletely routed, martial law must remain. Otherwise, there will
\nbe continuing attempts to destroy the unity of the country and
\ncreate chaos during the 2004 elections. All activities that are
\ninjurious to the unity of the nation must be foiled.<\/p>\n
The military operation in Aceh can be relaxed only when the
\nleaders of GAM have been arrested -- dead or alive. The efforts
\nthat the government, the military and the police have been making
\nto restore security and order in Aceh must not be rendered
\nuseless simply because some people disagree with martial law
\nthere.<\/p>\n
