Commander of Kodim 1710\/Mimika, Lieutenant Colonel Infanteri Jozanda,\nsaid TNI soldiers are pursuing an armed group that took nine women by\nforce in Jila District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, on Monday\n(17\/8).<\/p>\n
Jozanda, when confirmed in Timika on Wednesday evening, said the TNI\nresponded immediately by sending personnel to pursue the armed group\nafter receiving a report about the abduction of civilians.<\/p>\n
\u201cDo not worry, we have already carried out a pursuit of the\nperpetrators. Hopefully the soldiers carrying out this pursuit will also\nbe given ease so that they can quickly find and rescue our children,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The Dandim condemned the group\u2019s actions and stated that what the\narmed group did was cruel and inhumane.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn my words, it was a forced taking, so they were forced to be\ntaken. Danramil Jila received a report from the local community that\nseveral residents were forced to be taken, including a child in grade\nIII of elementary school, grade IV, grade VI, three people aged 18, and\none person aged 17 who is in early pregnancy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that when the victims were taken by force, two women who\nwere the mothers of the victims resisted so that their children would\nnot be taken by the group.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe mother refused to let her child be taken by force and in the end\nshe was shot and died at the scene. Then another mother who also refused\nto let her child be taken by force was thrown into a ravine and suffered\na broken leg,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The mother who was shot dead was identified as Neregingget Magai\n(48), while the mother who suffered a broken leg after being pushed into\na ravine was named Inkolung Aim.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe one who was shot died immediately and that afternoon her body\nwas cremated. The one with the broken bone is still alive and is now\nreceiving treatment in Jila. I have not yet received information about\nher age,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Currently, the Dandim said, the situation in Jila District is\ngradually becoming conducive, but air transport access cannot yet enter\nthe area.<\/p>\n
