Military and civilians<\/p>\n
Over the past week, I've read with surprise and dismay the
\nmany reactions to Dr. Juwono Sudarsono's opinion on this
\ncountry's coming leadership choice.<\/p>\n
As I see it, what Juwono did was state his view on the
\nsituation. In this case, the qualities of Indonesians of
\ndifferent backgrounds, military and civilian, and their
\neligibility to lead this nation.<\/p>\n
This view was based on his broad experiences and knowledge,
\nbeing an expert on sociopolitical affairs. And very likely on his
\nrecent findings acquired in his job as vice director of the
\nNational Resilience Institute, where classes comprising
\nprospective military and civilian leaders are undergoing year-
\nlong training, rife with seminars, discussions and field trips.<\/p>\n
Very much like the weather bureau that predicts a long drought
\nbased on observations of meteorological data, it would be absurd
\nand ridiculous if farmers then accused it of being in favor of
\ndry weather because of its forecast.<\/p>\n
Indeed, our people, including the so-called social experts,
\nstill have much to learn.<\/p>\n
