The Jakarta High Court (PT DKI Jakarta) has intensified the sentence\nfor M Syafei, the former Head of Social Security and License at Wilmar\nGroup, in the bribery case concerning the acquittal verdict for the\ncooking oil (migor) matter against the corporate defendant. Syafei\u2019s\npunishment has been increased from 6 to 8 years in prison.<\/p>\n
The appeal decision for M Syafei was handed down on Monday\n(20\/4\/2026). The appeal was heard by a panel of judges chaired by\nSubachran Hardi Mulyono, with members Edi Hasmi and Sondang\nMarapaung.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmending the decision of the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta\nDistrict Court dated 3 March 2026 Number 109\/Pid.Sus.TPK\/2024\/PN\nJkt.Pst, which was appealed, insofar as it concerns the duration of the\nprison sentence and the amount of the fine imposed,\u201d stated the judge\nwhile reading the appeal decision.<\/p>\n
The judges stated that Syafei was not proven to have committed the\ncrime of money laundering (TPPU), but was proven to have committed the\ncrime of aiding in giving bribes. The judges increased Syafei\u2019s sentence\nto 8 years in prison and a fine of Rp 500 million.<\/p>\n
\u201cImposing on the Defendant M Syafei, therefore, a prison sentence of\n8 years and a fine of Rp 500,000,000 to be paid within a period of 1\nmonth, which may be extended for a maximum of 1 month from the date the\ndecision gains legal force,\u201d said the judge.<\/p>\n
\u201cStipulating that if the fine is not paid within the specified\nperiod, the convict\u2019s assets or income may be seized and auctioned to\nsettle the unpaid fine. If the proceeds from the seizure and auction of\nassets or income are insufficient or not feasible, the unpaid fine shall\nbe replaced with imprisonment for 140 days,\u201d added the judge.<\/p>\n
Previously, M Syafei was sentenced to 6 years in prison in the\nbribery case for the cooking oil acquittal verdict. The judges stated\nthat Syafei was guilty of assisting Marcella Santoso and others in\nbribing the panel of judges to impose an acquittal on the corporate\ndefendant.<\/p>\n
\u201cDeclaring the above Defendant M Syafei proven legally and\nconvincingly guilty of committing the crime of aiding in giving bribes\njointly,\u201d said the chief judge Efendi while reading the decision\u2019s\noperative part at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday\n(3\/3).<\/p>\n
\u201cImposing on the Defendant, therefore, a prison sentence of 6 years,\u201d\nadded the judge.<\/p>\n
The judges also fined Syafei Rp 300 million.
